Gina Loree Marks, Shiatsu Practitioner and Restorative Exercise Specialist
"Living in 'harmony with nature' isn't just a fluffy platitude - it's really about living according to our design.
This is the driving perspective behind eastern medicine (that to understand the illness, one had to look to the relationship within and around a person) which from my first day is shiatsu school in 2004 made so much sense to me.
Imagine my thrill when some years later, I came upon a training in ‘western’ biomechanics and movement that said the exact same thing!
At the root of both Oriental medicine and biomechanics is the given premise that we are not exempt from the laws of nature and of physics. Our bodies (and minds and spirits) are still operating in relationship to objective truths about what they need to thrive, and while we can adapt for a time to our own rules, eventually this misalignment creates unhealthy stress, friction and breakdown.
As a bodyworker, I believe my role for my clients is larger than an opportunity to relax or gain relief from the latest ache and pain. I want to help you see your bodies in the larger context of your life; that your injuries don’t usually ‘just show up’; that your body is doing exactly what it's designed to do given with what it has to work with, and that you (we, all of us!) are in the driver’s seat of your own maintenance.
I want to help you see and feel where you are in relationship to your environment, and then give you the tools to improve that relationship."
Gina Loree Marks has been practicing and writing about shiatsu and teaching qigong-based movement since October 2005. She is graduate of the International School of Shiatsu in Doylestown, PA, as well as a Certified Personal Trainer in Restorative Exercise by the Nutritious Movement Center Northwest.
Her 'holistic journey' began not long after graduating art school and working at Essene, a macrobiotic market in Philadelphia in 1987. It was this immersion in an eastern view of health that led to living on a farm, homebirthing and homeschooling her four sons, growing food and herbs, and eventually studying shiatsu.
Gina lives in beautiful Lancaster County, PA with her soul mate, and a very odd cat.
